What's Love?

At times I felt that I truly love someone, but at times there just ain’t no kinda feeling… why? why? Is love just a feeling? A feeling that just come and go? Why am I afraid to love that someone? Is it because that I’m afraid that I’ll make a fool of myself, afraid of getting hurt? or just know that this love will not last?
I’ve been reminded many times that love is not just a passion or feeling, it is more than that, it requires the Big C ---
Commitment
. Am I ready for this? to stick with a person through tears and joy, especially through the not-so-good days? Have I reach a level of selflessness, where I can love sacrificially? How do I remind myself that I should not look at what I can
get
from a relationship but what I can
give
to the relationship?
This thoughts have been lingering in my mind since Vday… just didn’t have the time to jot it down…anyway, if you really sit down and ponder, choosing a life partner is indeed the most
important
decision in your life. Just imagine, you will live, eat, sleep, carry out household chores, bring up kids, and plan your finances and future together. Some people even have to leave behind families and close friends (from hometown) after marriage if their partner decides to work elsewhere, either in another state or overseas… so obviously, the person that matters most would be your partner. In other words, it is a relationship that
takes priority
over the others.
So, what’s love? All of us were silent (during the chit-chat session) as we tried to define love in our own words… all of us struggled… how to define love? In fact, many of us don’t know (or forgot).
So finally, I decided to turn to 1 Corinthians 13 and read it again. Here’s the excerpt (verse 4-8)
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it doest not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
Hmm, did u just scan through because it is such a familiar passage? Well, I would urge you to read slowly, word by word to let the meaning of every word sink in. You'll be in awe of how great (the real definition) of love is.
So, have you and i
really
love someone?
